np: clint mensall - marion barfs

so...after 3 months of holiday...it's finally time to get back into the mundane world of academics. well so far my lectures have been pretty interesting...chem tut is in this amazing room with lcd tv screens and computers...i love it! and i know someone in my chem tut..so that's good...in fact i know someone in almost all my classes so far. bio lab was traumatic...considering i couldnt see shit in the microscope for the first half an hour...and i dint get my bio book til today so i couldnt do any of the pre reading...so i dint know what the hell a vacuole or a...ok i cant even remember what else now... it was bad...not to mention the fact that the scottish guy across the table from me was a bloody bio genius and knew everything...i looked in his microscope twice to figure out what i was supposed to be looking at...HAHA oh well..it can only go up from here i guess..and most of my table mates havent done bio before...so we're all in the same boat. one guy dint have ANYTHING ready.

earth science is turning out to be pretty darn interesting. especially since one of my lecturers is young and hot...to the point where i might change my second semester subject to be lectured more by him! hahaha ok no in the end i know i wont...but he's cute...and married. lol. wanna know what's the biggest volcano in the entire solar system?? it's mount olympus on mars. 22km tall and 550km across...for reference sake, everest is 8km high. yeah i'm gonna shut up now...i know nobody's interested.

i think i'm gonna spend this entire weeked reading my bio textbook...and doing physics. my physics lecturer is a maniac. he kicked 3 guys out of the front door of the lt and told them to come thru the back door cos they were 5 mins late...and then told another latecomer that she lost 2 brownie points..strange but true. he gave us an example to complete the last lecture and today asked who hadnt even looked at it....and this bunch of guys sitting at the back just raised their arms like it was no big deal...hahaha nobody in singapore would have dared to do that la...i couldnt help but laugh. not that i did the example...or raised my hand for that matter.

man u beat reading this morning in the FA cup...3 goals in the first 6 mins..how awesome is that? but it turned into a pretty shitty performance after that. not at all manchester united standard...kieran richardson should just go boil his head.

ok its time for heroes. mohinder yum yum..and peter petrelli can fly off with me anydayyyyy...after not seeing him on gilmore for so long...i'd kinda forgotten how absolutely delicious milo ventimiglia is...except that he's short...but what's new...hot guys always have flaws. its also time for me to put my printer to work and print out 3 lectures worth of earth science notes...ooh and chem as well...shithead.

np: hanson - if only

ok i know some people are totally gonna laugh at me for saying this, but i think hanson are one of the most underrated bands around. i know mmmbop was a piece of shit, but other than that, they are exceptionally talented. ok go on, laugh.

anyway, last time i blogged it was monday night. so we shall proceed with tuesday, which was the day for student host groups...which is basically an orientation group led by a senior student who would be considered an OGL i guess. so my host was a fifth year named rhianna...and she was the sweetest girl. and bloody tall too. so about 9 of us were assigned to her and we went around to faculty intro sessions, libraries, science buildings, com labs...basically everything we would need to know in first year. and she gave us good tips on where to get second hand stuff...which has already proved useful. i got my chem textbooks second hand for 90 bucks instead of the normal 250.

wednesday was no more host group...but a bunch of us who met in host group went around for subject information sessions together. there was a really funny incident around 4pm where one guy discovered that he had to go for a placement interview for his introductory chinese class, which he dint know about...so it was a mad scramble across campus to get there in time...haha ok it was quite funny in a heart-pounding-shit-i'm-gonna-die-if-i-miss-this kinda way.

today was clubs and societies day...and also the day i finally finished my enrolment and got my student ID and insurance card. finallyyyyyyyyy i've been fretting about this since friday. ya so anyway, clubs and societies...seeing as how i have to absolutely ACE first year, i dint join anything cos i wanna see what my workload is like first...but i did join SINGAPORE STUDENTS SOCIETY!! haha ok it sounds lame but there's a free barbeque and all sorts of get togethers...and hello, if there's a chance of eating singaporean food.... I AM SO IN!

speaking of food, i'm tired of instant noodles, pasta and bread. i really need something spicy. so this weekend i'm gonna go to the supermarket and see what i can find. maybe an instant tom yam soup or curry or something. if all else fails, i'm buying some chili padi and throwing it into everything i cook. especially the bloody instant noodles...which is not nearly half as tasty as cup noodles back home. i swear to God, Bedok South Road hawker centre has spoilt me for life. good food that is bloody cheap.

ok i'm craving sushi now...i have no idea why. maybe tmr i'll go and sample the sushi bar in school. its called plush fish...ha.

ooh sandhya daahling...john mayer will be in melbourne on 1st november...in st kilda...no idea how to get there...or how ex the tix are...but they're selling awfully fast...everywhere else is sold out...AND I CANT GET TO THE TICKETING WEBSITE....the internet is a bitch.

in other news...man u drew with reading in the FA cup...sigh that's highly disappointing...

and then they beat lille in the champs league...pretty rubbish game with a rubbish pitch...but one piece of brilliance by ryan giggs....have i mentioned that i love ryan giggs...and that we have the same birthday...well i'll say it again. for the 284739852749651 th time... I LOVE RYAN GIGGS AND I AM SO HONOURED THAT WE SHARE BIRTHDAYS! anyway, the lille players threatened a walk off...which i thought is something that only happens in lao ya competitions like ASEAN championships...but apparently not. and the police used tear gas on united supporters...cos some french bastard messed up the ticketing, and let too many united fans into too small a section of the stands. so when united fans climbed a fence to escape, police feared a pitch invasion and used tear gas. did they learn NOTHING from heysel and hillsborough? french bastards. hate them all.

ok enough ranting. its time to watch lost. that show has really lost the plot (pun FULLY intended)....but im watching it cos sawyer is the hottest thing on tv tonight.

np: PCD - wait a minute

ok my com has been wonky all day...i'm not sure why. it'll suddenly hang and just conk out. i've restarted it like 10 times. creepy. anyway, today was a busy day. went to school for the health and safety talk in the morning to find out where the school clinic was. basket it's not in campus la, its like 2 streets away. its near the supermarket which i went to check out yesterday. i GUZZLE milk i tell you. i buy it one day and 3 days later its gone.

ya anyway, back on track, health and safety talk. there were reps from the clinic, insurance company, counselling service, student union and get this, the POLICE...ya they actually sent a senior constable(or some weird rank like that) over to talk to us. and there was this QnA where you could write your question anonymously on a piece of paper and submit it to any presenter...and somebody asked the cop: "IS MARIJUANA ILLEGAL?" all together now:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

i cant believe he asked a POLICEMAN that...the cop was so funny. this was his answer:

"Um, yes marijuana, like other drugs is illegal...if you're caught with a small amount, and its your first time....then we may let you off with a caution....(pause while the cop considers that this statement basically sounds like a go ahead)....but it's illegal. i mean...don't do it. if you're caught with more than a certain amount, you face charges and jail time..."

it was really so funny...the cop KNOWS so many ppl on campus do it and 1 eye is closed towards it and he cant do anything about it, but he has to lay down the rules anyway. then somebody else asked him whether it was legal to drink in parks...it's not, in case you were wondering.

new knowledge that i aquired yesterday. washing clothes in your toilet is BASTARD BACK BREAKING WORK! cotton doubles its weight the MOMENT it gets wet. i had to bring my computer chair to the toilet so i could sit down. thats how much my back was complaining. i dunno how my mother managed to wash QUILTS by hand. new respect for that woman i tell you.

today i took the train to chadstone, which is basically the vivocity of melbourne. fricking huge shopping centre. the trainride was so nice. its not like mrt when you just zoom overhead b/w stations and dont see shit. this one is actually an on the ground...proper seats...passing thru towns kinda ride.and guess what i passed? this will make aga happy. i passed MELBOURNE PARK! rod laver arena and vodafone arena where all the huge australian open games are played. ok seriously i nearly hyperventilated...i was digging thru my bag for my phone to take a pic but i couldnt get it fast enough.to think i was like 800m away from where andy roddick and marat safin were standing...HAHA i sound mad...probably looked mad on the train too but who cares.

so shopping lunch shopping shopping coffee....fast forward 3 hours and it was time to leave cos my sis had some orientation shit going on in her dorm. so i took the train back...got off at flinders street station which is almost as pretty as Grand Central in Manhattan and New Haven in Connecticut...and that's saying something.

decided that since it was a nice day, not too hot, and with a little wind, that i would walk over to melbourne central and take the tram home from there, giving me a chance to explore swanston street (one of the main streets in the city) a bit. so i was walking walking walking and suddenly this sign "DIRT CHEAP CDs"

my mind screamed "DETOUR" and i practically jumped thru the door. the owner of the store looked like a rapist/druggie/serial killer but his shop was fricking cool la. they had old music, new music, dvds, tv series....everything...and everything under 20 bucks ok....CDs were TEN BUCKS!! for new stuff too. so i grabbed 'parachutes' by coldplay, an album that i have always wanted to listen too, but never had the money(20 bucks for a CD never seemed worth it) or time to download it. so i got it...and its a nice album. pretty darn nice.

so armed with my 2 tees from chadstone, and my CD from the shop, i walked further on to Victoria State Library, which is a really pretty building that i've been wanting to go into since i first saw it. bloody hell it was damn damn boring inside la...i couldnt find a fiction section. apparently its not the national library i'm used to.

ok just heard on the radio that PINK is coming to melbourne. as are fall out boy, john mayer, and the dave matthews band. if i had money i would SO go for john mayer. that guy is KING of emo guitar music.

i wanna go watch a Melbourne Victory game. they're the local football team here and they just won the Australian league.big celebration party in the city today...i practically ran to the train station to avoid the crowds. anyway, they play at telstra dome, a stadium i've wanted to see since the rugby world cup in 2003.

in other news. britney spears shaved her head.........OMGGGGGG what is she up to ah? she's really gone round the bend.

ok this radio station 101.9 is pretty darn cool. the morning show is hilarious. one of the guys bet how long lindsay lohan wld be in rehab for. he lost and now he has to wear a skirt for the rest of the week. heehee. they're really naughty and funny la. anyway, i'm off. i wanna give my com a break, or it might explode.

ok i dont care if my neighbours get pissed off but i've been blasting music all night. this is for all the evenings when i couldnt watch tv cos some asshole is vacuuming his carpet next door and the vacuum cleaner is louder than a jet taking off...

np: all saints - chick fit

alrighty ppl i'm back. yesterday i cooked my own dinner. haha pasta and soup. and it turned out pretty ok if i do say so myself. but note to self, always cook pasta first...and let it drain COMPLETELY before adding soup. haha ok dont laugh at me, it was the first time i was cooking in such a small kitchen...i barely had space to move. my stove gets RED HOT when i cook on it. i was so scared it wld start sparking and start a fire or something.

yesterday was the first official day of orientation. not much, just international student briefing for one hour. they talk a lot of rubbish. the only important part was...'go to your faculty information session to enrol'...after that it was all road safety blah blah university sports and recreation blah blah student union blah blah.

i think i might join union. 24 bucks per month but you get like half price food at union house and free rental of dvds, books and music from the union library.

just came back from school. faculty intro session. gotta go back at 2.30 for my enrolment appointment. by right i should be reading thru my enrolment package and filling out the forms...but i'm a procrastinator...and anyway i've got like 2.5 hours to do it. but i have to look over which subjects to do. pretty standard la, bio, chem and phys..but i dunno which electives to choose...maybe geography? i really dun wanna do maths again. REALLY! it's got statistics...i'll go mad if i have to do binomial and poisson and watever other shit again. i wonder if i'll still be able to keep up in geography after a 2 year hiatus. i'll ask for advice at my enrolment meeting.

anyway, glad to hear that everyone had a good(satisfactory at least) valentines. mine was spent with my dad...which is prob better than any loser boy...me, him and my sis went to this jap restaurant for dinner in the city. not bad. but the portions are fricking big i cant finish anything.

i hear xunny is doing a cross-stitch for society, who is in the jungle. um...a cross-stitch. interesting. and very un-xunny...but love does funny things to people...so good luck with it dearest.dint we do some sort of cross-stitch in sec 1 home econs...scary. and the disgusting napkin. i sewed 2 sides of my napkin together somehow, if i remember correctly. not a good time in my life, that one.

the atm machine in uni makes a hell of a lot of noise when you use it. its quite embarassing actually. its really high-pitched beeping.

tv here is pretty darn good. especially channel 7. on wednesday nights it's heroes, prison break and 24 all in a row. then thurs night is LOST season 3...and sundays its ugly betty then grey's anatomy season 3. hello how cool is that??? i'm not moving from my bed la(it doubles as my couch) the tv is too good. plus the cost is worked into my rent, so i dont have to pay extra to watch as much as i want.

ok i keep trying to load pics but it doesnt work. sorry guys you're gonna have to wait a little longer.

i think i should turn off my aircon. i'm scared of my electricity bill. its funny how now i'll ask myself. ' do i really need this light to cook' or 'do i really need to on this light when i'm watching tv?' or ' should i just turn off the bathroom light when i'm bathing' even tho its damn dark in the toilet.

i should go fill out all my forms now. love you all.

np: clay aiken - a thousand days

Thurs: seafood dinner with old neighbours. Awesome pepper crab.but we had to wait 1 hour plus for the food…not too great service.

Fri: woke up thinking that I was gonna have a simple sleepover at jemima’s house that night. Packed, wore some ratty tee and jeans, dint comb my hair. Met mich at serangoon mrt…where she said she was hungry so why don’t we go to central and buy bread. So we did. Walked to jema’s house…where I saw Justin lim and chai yun standing at the stairs….it was a fricking surprise party and EVERYONE was there!!i cant remember if I screamed or not but I was definitely shocked. My friends are so sneaky I tell you.

Aga, bob, Arlene, chai yun, Arvin, Jason, mat, da J, donna, Erick, YG, Eugene, huiying, nav, Jolene, chestine, anita, ezzah, ethel, grace, xunny, belle, qua, sally, mich jema. It was nice having all my friends in one place.and jon called from camp, that sweetheart. And I’m so touched that they bothered to organize something for me. I wanna say thanks and that I love ALL OF YOU!!! And your gifts were beautiful. The chocolates, cards, 3 pairs of earrings, one ring, 2 posters, 1 banner, 1 amazing calendar and class picture…and of course…Arvin…your necklace.my first ever diamond!! I haven’t taken it off since. Thanks bitch.

It was really out of this world. I dunno if they know how much I appreciate it. I almost cried but I dint!! Achievement in itself. Stayed over at jema’s with grace xunny and mich. Talked, dozed off, talked some more and don’t forget the classic video of xun-ai dancing. Classic. I’ll hold it over her head forever... Had a mac’s breakfast then went home.

That night I had dinner with my relatives. Not very happening la, but nice seeing them nonetheless…got some money, an organizer and LONELY PLANET AUSTRALIA!! Haha ok it’s quite useful actually.

Saturday morning I went to temple and it hit me that this was my last day in Singapore…and I don’t know when I’m coming back. It was sobering. Spent the afternoon frantically finishing my packing. Was a little late getting to the airport. Aga was already there….and I tell you, she made the most beautiful scrap book ever. Bob made me cookies!! Nice choco chip cookies.the apus gave me a really pretty notebook with individual notes inside. Jason and sean came and gave me a fork and spoon…and a note. I’m not kidding. Haha. I’ve been ordered to use it. And pten…ever the comediennes…got me a little fan with their baby pictures on it. They left one empty spot for me.

I couldn’t help but cry when I left. I always couldn’t wait to get out of Singapore…but then when the time came, I just wanted to stay. Guess everyone feels this way. At least my friends will all still be around. And with the wonders of technology, we have MSN, blogs and webcams.

My dorm room is the tiniest room I’ve ever lived in. from the door to the back wall, its EIGHT steps. That’s right EIGHT…but I managed the space as best I could and tried to cheer up the place with my personal effects and stuff from my old room…plus of course my new gifts.

I’m bored now in my room as the tv has no sports channel so I think I’ll go charge my camera, load some photos and update my ipod.

By the way, my campus is quite pretty. I’ll try taking some pics of it and posting it here. Thanks again to all my wonderful friends for the past week. It made going away a lot more fun… especially now that I have so many things to remember you guys by…and ya’ll BETTER BE ONLINE EVERY NIGHT...

my hair smells of cigarettes, as do my jeans and my eyeliner refuses to be completely washed off. my throat is sore, i have a festering blister inbetween my toes and 2 of my toenails are broken due to trampling elephants in clarke quay. every time i go clubbing i say i wont go again because, although its fun when you're in the club, the after effects arent as good. but it was my last chance to party before i leave so what the hell.

was at sand's house before that for her bday. camwhoring laughing eating talking. the normal things that happen when cedarians get together.

dint go to mcdonald's with the rest after clarke quay, but i hear there was an interesting story involving 20000yen, some young white punk and a vulgar, yet helpful ah beng. HA!

instead i went home to watch the england match which was a complete waste of time and i fell asleep after 10 minutes. mclaren's gonna get fired. yessssssssss.

AH i havent packed la bugger.the only thing i've put in my suitcases are towels and winter clothes. not too good.

seafood dinner tonight. heaven.

this song is addictive.the best bollywood song i've heard in a while (after beedi that is). is it even in hindi??

anyway...got back from the motherland (India, for those who dont know) this morning after a crappy flight where i couldnt sleep and all the men were drinking whiskey like it was water, sleeping with their head and feet blocking the isles and messing up the toilet...inconsiderate beings. all spoilt by their mothers when they were young.

so anyway...the motherland. sort of rocked actually. it was better than i expected. THERE WAS HOT WATER IN THE VILLAGE, PEOPLE!!! bloody hot water that scalded me every morning actually. the temple was really nice and the priest was so funny and sweet. he kept making fun of the fact that i couldnt speak the language. saturday night was the big prayer. it was...an experience, to put it lightly. its not every day you get to talk to God. it made up for the waking up at 4am every morning. and all the ladies who love to cook and feed me and laugh at my lack of malayalam (my mother tongue) speaking skills.village people who arent wealthy but love to share what they have(especially FOOD). its great. saw 5 elephants, around 30 cows, even more goats and like, 497693847762835 chickens.and dont forget the temple dog who only eats white rice and fruit!! hahaha. i love him. he's so cute.

got a new phone. its pretty. i love it. i reeeeeeeeeeeally love it.

sandhya's dad is throwing her a party on the night we were all supposed to go out. which means we cant buy her a cake as her bday present. navleen views this as a great tragedy HAHA. ok sandhya i love you. you're getting a present, i promise!!

man u beat tottenham 4-0 last night. how cool is that? i couldnt watch cos i was on the plane. but apparently the goals were great and ronaldo looked hot. and john o shea was a successful replacement goalie.i cant wait for the repeat telecast at 1pm today.

singapore won the Asean football championships. somehow that doesnt have as nice a ring to it as "TIGER CUP". but anyway...good for the lions, its pretty much the only thing they can win anyway. righty-ho i'm off to take a shower.

and ezzah: RIPPEDINTOPIECES!!! yes thank you. i knew it was ripped something but i couldnt remember what!
